Description
Portrait of Sarah Vaughn Matted Print, third of the songbird series. The five pieces pay homage to blues and jazz songstresses of the early/mid 1900’s. These women weathered through turbulent times, overcame some seemingly insurmountable challenges and left their mark on the world. Shying away from more realistic style portraits, I wanted this series to mirror the sultry, playful, but frank nature of the musical genres highlighting both contrast and balance. Sarah Vaughn’s musical roots began with her family. She was a seasoned singer and pianist by her early teens. Her performances at the famous Apollo led to big band tours and then on to a stunning solo career. Her voice has been hailed as on of the greates voice of the 20th century.
