The Songbird series is the second progression created to highlight specific musicians for black history month. The five pieces pay homage to blues and jazz songstresses of the early/mid 1900’s. With one of the most distinctive vocal styles of her time, Billie Holiday had a thriving singing career for 26 years. The most successful song of her career was “Strange Fruit”, a song as complex and poignant as her life. Though her time here was short, the impact she had on music indelible.
