The Songbird series is the second progression created to highlight specific musicians for black history month. The five pieces pay homage to blues and jazz songstresses of the early/mid 1900’s. These women weathered through turbulent times, overcame some seemingly insurmountable challenges and left their mark on the world. It only made sense for me to begin with the crowned “Queen of Jazz”, legendary Ella Fitzgerald! With a voice as sweet as summertime and strong as black coffee, she graced microphones worldwide throughout her 60-year career. The purity of her is tone still resonates, with no generational bounds.
